Horror Remakes, Should The Studios Stop?

I remember when everybody was up in arms when we heard that there would be a remake of George Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" (2004), there was so much negativity from horror fans back then. After the film came out I actually enjoyed it, since then we've had a burst of remakes coming out in the last couple of years. We've had some really bad ones like "The Fog" and "When A Stranger Calls", although some were decent like "Black Christmas" and "The Hills Have Eyes".

So my question is do you embrace the remake craze or should the Hollywood studios stop and come out with original ideas? It doesn't seem to be slowing down much, there will be more horror remakes coming out next year.

`Personnally, I'd like them more not to remake film from the 80's but look to the 50's and 60's instead, so many under-rated films that could be-remade and re-invigored.

I would love to see a remake of The portrait of Dorian Gray or Black Sunday, as these are awesome films and I would just love to see people become interested in them again.

I also think these people chosing to do the remakes need to register when the film rides on a particular actor. Could you accept Kruger if it wasn't Robert Englund or Evil dead without Bruce Campbell?

Well they're not exactly ignoring the '50s and the '60s, we had another version of the "Invasion of the Bodysnatchers" with Nicole Kidman, and if you count science-fiction we have "The Day The Earth Stood Still" coming out next month plus "Forbidden Planet" in the planning stages.


I guess it all depends on who is directing and writing plus what actors can play the parts well. I mean Christian Bale is great as Batman, can't they do the same to reboot/remake "A Nightmare on Elm Street" films? Although I do get your point, I thought the actor who played Norman Bates in the "Psycho" remake (not to mention the whole film) was terrible.

I get the sense that Bruce Campbell and Robert Englund are not interested in representing their famous roles , unless they're offered to make a cameo in the remakes.

`I enjoyed Invasion of the Body Snatchers new prefer the old film. Some of the old horror movies seem kind of funny now, but do love to watch them

`I'm 50/50 on the remakes, the deaths in the remake of Friday the 13th were awesome, but im one of those people who believe you can't outdo the original, there's a reason why it wasn't remade for so many years. However I wouldn't say no to a good remake of night of the living dead. I'll still watch the crappy ones to day I've watched them but only the original night of the living dead is decent. First return of the living dead was so crappy it was good. C'mon Hollywood remake of Night of The Living Dead! And don't f**k it up!!!

I mean The Elm street remake can't hold a candle next to the 1984 classic.

nightmare on elm street was fun in 80s and 90s but now they dont have
any creativity and ideas and what do i do if i were the sutdio i would add
more scary parts or do a remake that is similar to firt parts of the franchise
and do it in the time of 80s which was the best century for horror anthology movies
