As a kid, I watched 'Mona the Vampire', 'The Worst Witch' and 'Goosebumps'. When I moved up to senior school (from age 12-16) I watched 'Buffy', 'Charmed' and 'Angel'. They were good shows only they didn't make me want to "watch from behind the sofa".My Auntie was getting rid of one of her books during the summer and I had nothing left to read during registration. It made sense to give her book a new home in my school bag. The morning of the first day of the new year, taking the book from my bag I settled down to read a page or two. Three years later, I was on my umpteenth read of the book. That's when my English teacher released in me a flurry of emotions, "Emily you do know that there's a film!"
"There's a film?" That night I scoured YouTube for it and there it was, snippets of it at least.

That was it, love at first watch and ever since I seem to have become enthralled with all things horror. Especially what has become known as Gothic Cinema, the style defined by Terence Fisher. Though you can argue it could be better described as Melodramatic Horror given the elaborate aspects of mood, atmosphere, emotion and the pushing and blurring of boundaries between reality and the supernatural.
As for my favourite horror movie, it's difficult to pick just one as there are elements in many good horror films that have stuck out to me. However, I'm a firm believer that vampires shouldn't sparkle in sunlight. By all means, adapt vampire lore into your lore and find creative ways to protect them from the sun. Just don't have them sparkle!!
I'm currently writing a Horror feature screenplay, perhaps that will contain some nuggets for you to work out my favourite Horror movie/s. I'm not so into the whole Zombie thing. Vampires and Werewolves though... I never get enough!
