Just wondering what type of horror movies or books our members don't like? Not into the slasher films or exploitation flicks? Do you prefer supernatural thrillers or films like "Saw"? Let's hear your preferences.

`Films that don't bother with story and just go for gore to compensate, like Hostel. Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with gore but all films need a story.

I'm also not so keen on films that leave me confussed, necromantik is a good example, the whole random scene of a breakfast table with the boiled eggs and the random violent scene towards a rabbit and a seal (in the sequal). They are nothing to do with the rest of the film and feel like someones accidentally filmed over part of the film, they always leave me trying to read far too much into them.

I have to agree with you Sweetmeatx on horror films that try to confuse you, adding scenes that really don't deserve to be there. I also thought that the first Saw film was pretty good, but the following sequels just seemed to think up of new devices to kill people, kind of gets old after a while. And it has sponsored other movies (which the media has called "Torture ----") like Hostel.

I can honestly say im not a fan of the ones where there's so much nudity it begins to blurr the lines of horror and ----. Its a horror flick and some nuditity is ok but when half of the cast gets killed and has been but assed naked for most of if that's just to much. (refuse to watch a cult classic film because it blurred the line.)

`Hate torture ----. Gross. To me that's not scary, it's just sadistic. Also (and there are a million of them), "five (or six or ten) college students spend a weekend in a cabin or a mansion or whatever...and something or someone picks them off one by one...*groan*. That is not to say that I did not enjoy the Evil
Dead series. At least they had a sense of humor.

`See, to me movies like saw and hostel arent horror, but gore/suspense. I tend to lean more towards more classic images of horror. In the case of gore vs story and art, I would rather watch Hellraiser(which i LOVE) which started out with a very intricate and artistic story, than Saw (personally i dont like saw, but i DO like Hostel 1&2 but dont count it among horror).

If i had to pick a fav genre of horror, id have to go with supernatural(ghost flicks). Though, the 80s-early 90s "monster" flicks will always hold a special place in my heart.....im looking at you pumpkin head and leprechaun.

`I'm bored by the current trend of pretentious wannabe horror films and remakes. Where are the John Carpenters and George Romeros of this generation?

I'm with Bruce Campbell on this one; modern horror films are s---.

`There are better books than movies if you are a reader-I tend to read more horror books than watch movies... I love Bently Littles Dark Dominion and the revelation..I love John Carpenter But I also enjoyed the Thing recreated by the swedish....I'm a Lycanthrope fanatatic-Anyone can suggest a good horror movie apart from Ginger Snaps..Just not B grade movies...
