What's your favorite scary movie? Horror movies used to be my least favorite genre, but in recent years it's jumped to my favorite. I think the obsession for great scary movies began with japanese horror. I was already into anime, so horror movies sort found its way in there. My friends were also into them, which influenced me to watch them as well. After going through as many j-horror as I could, I turned to the american horror, then foriegn horror. I'm rather disappointed with american horror, especialy the current stuff coming out. It's been more laugh worthy than scream worthy. I'm not sure why jumpscares are the thing at the moment. I know they startle you when it occurs, and there's that rush of adrenline you feel afterwards. My problem is I've become so used to them that it's hard to scare me with them. Take Mama for instance, I watched the whole movie without the jumpscares getting me once. It just wasn't scary to me. If anything, it was like a macabre fairy tale. I enjoyed the plot and atmosphere, if nothing else. My point is, horror needs something new. I have nod idea what it is, but experimenting can only be admired by me at this point.
